So, has anyone picked up the new album by Journey yet?
I have, and I have to say, Revelation is really good. Surprisingly good, considering their new singer is a complete unknown from the Philippeans. The album is called Revelation, and their new singer, Arnel Pineda is known in the Asiatic for his melodic singing and being able to reliably cover almost any band from the 70's and 80's. Neal Schon, Journey's guitarist, found him on YouTube after the band's current singer, Steve Augeri, lost his voice on tour.
This is a return to form for the band. I'm a die hard, so I would have gotten this even if people were saying it sucked; but the fact that it is actually quite good makes me optimistic that the band is heading in the right direction. Arnel sounds even more like Steve Perry than Steve Augeri did, yet he has his own voice on the album...It's written by Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon, the two chief songwriters of the band, so Arnel hasn't contributed anything yet; aside from his vocals. We know he can write though, since back in the Philippeans he wrote a solo album and contributed much to his old band, The Zoo (some of his songs are also charting high over there. Revelation is expected to chart high on the US album billboards this week).
Most people take one look at it and see that it's not Steve Perry, but with this one you've got to let the music do the talking. So here are a few tracks:
Never Walk Away
Change For The Better
After All These Years
