Mar. 23rd, 2008 @ 11:42 am Controlled Substance at RCFM

Yep, yep, yep! And we're taking no prisoners! All who come will rock!

What's that? You've never heard of us? Well, I suppose that's understandable... Right now, we're pretty local, so let me fill you in.

"

Controlled Substance is an eclectic rock band from Memphis, Tn. Comprising of members with different musical backgrounds, they produce a sound that's familiar yet foreign, delicious yet different.

The sound of Substance is a fusion of hip-hop-influenced drum beats, jazz bass, folk-progressive rhythms, Hendrix leads, and pop-classical keyboards. Above all this, indie-rock and choir vocals mesh solidly and perfectly, completing the sound of Substance.

Influences range from The Pixies, Jimi Hendrix, and Dir en grey to Nickle Creek, The Seatbelts, and Jaco Pastorius to Travis Barker, Gackt, and AFI.

Lyrically, the band delves into the darkness of humanity, bringing to light it's inner-most qualities, including love, hate, good, evil, passion, and drive. Lyricists are by no means fearful of boating in controversial waters, exposing corruption in government and humankind, exploring mental deprivation, and telling stories left untold. Introspective thoughts and strange, powerful imagery pour from the mouths of impassioned vocalists to stir the listener's thoughts and feelings, to arouse self-awareness and promote recognition of the world outside of the box.

This is emotion. This is life. This is Substance."

OK, well, it's the cheesy promo spiel, but I can prove it's all true! The best way to know is to come, but I've put together a promo pack JUST FOR YOU! I wish I could give you everything I have, but the truth is that if it's a good recording, we're trying to sell it x3 With that in mind, I ask that if you like what you hear, buy our music, which will be for sale in the Dealer's Den along with some shirts and stickers.

Click here to check us out!

A little information about what I've given you...

01. Sanctified Butterfly - Guys, this is the real deal, the first track from our EP. You can listen at various places online, but this is the ONLY link from which you get a FREE DOWNLOAD! Enjoy!

02. Detached - We hope to premier this little folk tune at RCFM. It's got a bit of a Celtic feel, don't you think?

03. Preview - It's impossible to give you one song and say, "This is what Substance sounds like," so here's a preview of our EP, one minute per song.

04. Stray-Dog Epitaph (Raw) - As it says, it's a very raw recording of one of our songs. No drums, no bass, just piano, guitars, and vocals. Even I'm surprised at how good this recording is.

05. 42 (acoustic) - This is a live, acoustic recording (with some digital vocal effects and a socket wrench) of one of our heavier songs we'll be premiering at RCFM. No other audience has heard this song in full fruition. You will be the FIRST!

Bonus - The Adventures of Bernie the Snowhound (instrumental) - We hope to bring our comedic side-project band, 111号室 (one-eleven GO-sheet-zoo) with us to play during our break (Zack Bearnuts' schedule permitting). They wouldn't let us bring our funnier song (it was quite lewd), so here's our other song, minus lyrics. THOSE are a surprise ;)

I hope you like what you hear, but if you don't, COME ANYWAY! We may have something for you I couldn't share today! After all, we're practically the last big event to enjoy, other than the dead dog dance. What do you have to loose?

I hope to see you there, mates!

Yours,
     Buck

Bangin' to: Moon Is Down - Buck Riley
Moon Is Down (Seth's Song)

The purpose of this project was to imitate Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones while creating something entirely my own. You should notice some similarities, especially once I add in the vocals, but it's quite obviously not the same song at all. My favorite accomplishment is getting that octavating bassline. It's harder than it sounds.
To be honest, I'd never listened to the Rolling Stones before I started this. I wish I knew more about their sound beforepaw so I could better imitate it. Now that the song is done and I'm not going to change it, I know that they have a very different guitar riffing style. Oh, well :3
I wish I had a sitar, but my guitar will have to do x3 I added in a solo to make up for it.
All I have left is vocals, and when they're in, it'll hopefully complete the mimicry. :D
I'd post the lyrics, but they're on my old computer, which is locked up until tomorrow in my dorm room. It has something to do with the end of the world (I'm an end-of-the-world kind of guy, don'tchaknow). All I remember is, "The sun is out, and the moon is down." By out, I mean turned out, like a light :o Clever? Maybe.

Anyway, as a song, lemme know what you think :3

Feb. 13th, 2008 @ 01:45 pm Track 3
necrojustice and I constantly joke about forming a band. A few nights ago, he wrote out some of our songs. He also sent me a rough mix of track 3 that I was supposed to build on. I quickly laid down some bass (my guitar can get really bass like sometimes) and some rhythm guitar. It's not quite what I want but eh.

Bangin' to: "Mob Rules" - Black Sabbath

Well, I finally got off my lazy furry butt and joined. XD

I'm a lead guitarist that takes a lot of style influence from Van Halen, Metallica, Pantera and some good ol' Hendrix for balance.

I'm also looking for a band to play with. Preferably local to the Memphis and Mid-South area, so if you need a good creative guitarist, don't hesitate to look me up and contact me.

That's it, so if I can get a good recording program for my computer and a decent internet connection, I'll try to post some of my solos.

Blackie out. \m/ ^^ \m/

Merry Christmas, my friends! This is my gift to all of YOU!

I'm finally finished... and alas, FurAffinity is down. Who saw THAT coming? :P

Every year, I do a little Christmas project for the internet. This time, instead of doing a traditional Christmas song, I decided to do a theme more indicative of winter than the holidays themselves. So, I chose the Winters theme from Earthbound! Why? Well, why not? It's a lovely song, and it feels like winter to me.

Anyway, I'm quite pleased and frankly amazed at how well this turned out! I was rather unsatisfied with my guitar work, but I think I managed to make myself sound good anyway :D

You can check previous entries in my journal for some of the progress links... But here, now...

Final Version of "...a small country to the north..."

And here's the original song from the game!
I only did the first two songs.

Yours,
    Buck

I'm hoping this community is still relatively alive, but I'm a one-man furry rock band and I have some music that will hopefully kick your asses. Here are some of my more hardcore tunes:

Partying With A Rocket Scientist: Brody Catsmouth of Critical Fail helped me record the majority of my songs and he is the coolest rocket scientist I've ever rocked out with. This is an anthem for all the space engineers who'd like to get down after transcending the stratosphere! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/885941/

Sonoran Desert Missile Ride: My good friend Triad Fox drew a picture of himself flying through the desert on a missile and I couldn't resist the urge to lay down a really bizarre, funky bass rock track for him... http://www.furaffinity.net/view/886791/

Blue Moon Raccoon: A personal theme song that I will play for the Earth when the extraterrestrial citrus farmers invade and I make my escape! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/886804/

Gorilla Smash!: TriSight is a gorilla. He likes smashing things. This being my first attempt at death metal, I thought of him while recording it. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/886633/

Flight of the Cyborgs: A short, experimental techno-metal song for fighting aerial ninja robots. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/807177/

Predator/Scavenger: Tribal metal at it's finest. Grinding rhythm and lead guitars wailing along with a hand percussion legion ready for battle. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/642541/

I hope y'all enjoy my rocking, feedback is always much appreciated! :D

Aug. 5th, 2007 @ 10:41 pm Play safe guys
I'm sure y'all have heard about the whole HIV thing and AC. I dunno if it's true, and I really won't even try to say whether or not it's true.

Anyway, rockers are known for their sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. I like to think that all of us here in this tiny LJ community celebrate that kind of lifestyle, even if we don't live it. Also, like rockers, furries seem to have this feeling of invincibility.

We all need to remember that, just like our idols, we are only mortal. We all need to remember this and not let that feeling of invincibility let us do something stupid, like catch something horrible from something so very pleasurable. Have your wild sex parties like our idols have, but use some sense and do it safely. Use condoms. Get tested, regularly. Get tested at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and every 6 months after that following an encounter with a new partner.

Feelin': amusedamused
I assume most people have seen David Lee Roth's "California Girls" music video (if not, check it out HERE)...
In true Dresden Dolls fashion, they've turned an idea upside down and back around again and paid a beautiful homage to DLR in their new video, "Shores of California"...
